Mountain Oasis

Every time we leave Whitefish we countdown until the next time we can visit the beautiful state of Montana. The girls know just what they want to do when they return to their favorite place and they can picture how they will spend their days there getting dirty and tired in the cool air. We usually plan a getaway for a few weeks at the exact time that Houston reaches some of its hottest temps of the year and once again this summer we did just that!

We know the routine well and the girls are getting so grown up and savvy that traveling is becoming easier and easier. We were all happy when we arrived at the Glacier Airport even though we had to wake both girls to deboard. We then spent the next several days in our own sort of paradise riding Livibelle, the tractor, the ATV, the swing, the hammock, etc. We were lucky enough to overlap for a few days with the Vernons so Leo and June joined in the fun as well. We made mud pies, cheered at the Blue Moon Rodeo, ate Sweet Peaks multiple times, visited the Farmers Market, hiked to the railroad tracks and played and played. We did a giant puzzle like always, spent a day on Big Mountain riding the Alpine Slide and touring the Ropes Course and ate most of our meals everyday outside. Ben and Grandpa worked on the barn and Belle practiced her barrel racing around trees in the field. We decided to go somewhere new this year and spent a day at Whitefish Lake in the cold glacier water. We rented a kayak and the girls loved Ben paddling them out where the water was hundreds miles deep and freezing! It was a beautiful day and once again we came home tired and dirty.

We love Sigh-Bar and always get a lump in our throat when it is time to head back to the busy city of Houston. We cope by once again looking at the calendar and count the days until we can return again. Like one of my favorite authors said.... There is a field, I'll meet you there... Khaled Hosseini
